Eat Up!

Your heart wants you to cut down on fatty foods. Your stomach is nagging you to kick the coffee. Your spouse wants you to ditch the carbs, and your liver has given up trying to tell you anything. So what can you eat? If you regularly suffer from sinusitis, rhinitis, or allergies, the answer is anti-inflammatory foods.

In fact, if you have any inflammatory disease (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, repetitive strain), anti-inflammatory foods may be able to help reduce your discomfort and keep you symptom-free. For sinus-sufferers, this could mean no more headaches, no stuffy nose, and no more worrying about endoscopic sinus surgery.

Try adding these foods to your diet, and see if your symptoms abate:

  • Cabbage, spinach and broccoli. Excellent sources of Vitamin C, these vegetables keep your entire immune system happy and healthy. This allows your body to fight off the bacteria that cause sinusitis, before it even begins.
  • Beans, bananas, and lean beef. These three B’s are high in B vitamins, which will help keep your central nervous system strong. A deficiency of B vitamins can lead to anemia and fatigue, which may be hard to disambiguate from the fatigue caused by sinusitis.
  • Salmon, flax seed, and walnuts are high in Omega-3s, which reduce inflammation, boost immune functioning, and promote healthy cells.

Eating these healthful and delicious foods should help you stay sinusitis-free. But if they don’t, come see us! We can get you back on your feet.
